چکیده

In this paper, we consider a least square semidefinite programming problem under ellipsoidal data uncertainty. We show that the robustification of this uncertain problem can be reformulated as a semidefinite linear programming problem with an additional second-order cone constraint. We then provide an explicit quantitative sensitivity analysis on how the solution under the robustification depends on the size/shape of the ellipsoidal data uncertainty set. Next, we prove that, under suitable constraint qualifications, the reformulation has zero duality gap with its dual problem, even when the primal problem itself is infeasible. The dual problem is equivalent to minimizing a smooth objective function over the Cartesian product of second-order cones and the Euclidean space, which is easy to project onto. Thus, we propose a simple variant of the spectral projected gradient method [7] to solve the dual problem. While it is well-known that any accumulation point of the sequence generated from the algorithm is a dual optimal solution, we show in addition that the dual objective value along the sequence generated converges to a finite value if and only if the primal problem is feasible, again under suitable constraint qualifications. This latter fact leads to a simple certificate for primal infeasibility in situations when the primal feasible set lies in a known compact set. As an application, we consider robust correlation stress testing where data uncertainty arises due to untimely recording of portfolio holdings. In our computational experiments on this particular application, our algorithm performs reasonably well on medium-sized problems for real data when finding the optimal solution (if exists) or identifying primal infeasibility, and usually outperforms the standard interior-point solver SDPT3 in terms of CPU time. ∗Department of Applied Mathematics, University of New South Wales, Sydney 2052, Australia. Analysis of Semidefinite Programming Relaxation Approach for Maximum Likelihood Mimo Detection

Many signal processing applications reduce to solving integer least square problems, e.g., Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection, which is NP-hard. Recently semidefinite programming (SDP) approach has been shown to be promising approach to combinatorial problems. SDP methods have been applied to the communications problem, e.g., [1], [2], [3]. But so far no theoretical analysis of the algorithm is ...

A new semidefinite programming relaxation scheme for a class of quadratic matrix problems

Weconsider a special class of quadraticmatrix optimizationproblemswhich often arise in applications. By exploiting the special structure of these problems, we derive a new semidefinite relaxation which, under mild assumptions, is proven to be tight for a larger number of constraints than could be achieved via a direct approach. We show the potential usefulness of these results when applied to r...

Robust constrained waveform design for MIMO radar with uncertain steering vectors

This paper considers the robust waveform design of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar to enhance targets detection in the presence of signal-dependent interferences assuming the knowledge of steering vectors is imprecise. Specifically, resorting to semidefinite programming (SDP)-related technique, we first maximize the worst-case signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) over unce...

Multivariate Nonnegative Quadratic Mappings

In this paper we study several issues related to the characterization of specific classes of multivariate quadratic mappings that are nonnegative over a given domain, with nonnegativity defined by a pre-specified conic order. In particular, we consider the set (cone) of nonnegative quadratic mappings defined with respect to the positive semidefinite matrix cone, and study when it can be represe...

A Recurrent Neural Network Model for Solving Linear Semidefinite Programming

In this paper we solve a wide rang of Semidefinite Programming (SDP) Problem by using Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs). SDP is an important numerical tool for analysis and synthesis in systems and control theory. First we reformulate the problem to a linear programming problem, second we reformulate it to a first order system of ordinary differential equations. Then a recurrent neural network...
